Teachers and education sector workers across Mongolia have launched a nationwide strike after failing to reach an agreement with the government on salary increases. The strike, described as “indefinite,” is expected to continue throughout this week.

According to sources, more than 26,000 teachers are participating in the protest, including educators from general education schools and kindergartens. They are demanding that the government raise their base salary to 3.5 million tugriks (around $1,000).

Currently, the average monthly salary for teachers in Mongolia stands at 1.38 million tugriks (approximately $400).

The strike has disrupted classes in schools and kindergartens nationwide, marking one of the largest education sector protests in recent years.
