State-Owned Enterprises to Undergo Major Overhaul
At last week’s Cabinet meeting, the main agenda item was improving the governance of state-owned enterprises. As part of efforts to increase efficiency and eliminate overlapping functions, a proposal was made to reduce the number of enterprises by merging or dissolving nine of 17 specified companies. Overall, the total number of state-owned enterprises will be cut from 109 to 87.
Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar also instructed that the salaries and benefits of company directors be tied to performance and results. He noted that some loss-making companies were found to pay their directors salaries of MNT 20–30 million.
