Rising Online Scams Cost ₮12 Billion

According to the General Police Department (GPD), ₮12 billion was lost to online fraud in just the first three quarters of 2025. In the first eight months alone, more than 11,000 citizens became victims of such scams. The total loss for 2024 was ₮13 billion, and police note that the number of cases continues to rise rather than decline.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid joining suspicious online groups on Telegram, Facebook, and similar platforms that promise lotteries, cash prizes, or quick-profit investment schemes.

The GPD reported that less than 10% of the total losses have been recovered so far, with around ₮4 billion successfully traced and frozen. Since the start of 2025, Mongolians have collectively lost an estimated ₮53 billion to various fraud-related schemes.
