Rare Dinosaur Unearthed in Mongolia
The latest issue of the world-renowned journal Nature published a joint research paper by scientists from the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and the University of North Carolina. The team studied one of the most complete pachycephalosaur fossils ever found in Mongolia, officially naming it Zavacephale rinpoche, meaning “the first, precious, and rare dome-headed.”
The specimen is notable for being the first pachycephalosaur fossil discovered with forelimb elements and stomach stones. It also represents the earliest known pachycephalosaur species in geological time. The study was conducted by Dr. Ts.Chinzorig, Dr. Kh.Tsogtbaatar, and researchers B.Buyantogtokh and B.Mainbayar of the Institute of Paleontology at the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
