No Power Cuts This Winter
In June 2025, an industrial accident occurred at Thermal Power Plant No.3, raising fears that Ulaanbaatar could face electricity shortages during peak winter demand. However, government-appointed plenipotentiary representative N.Tavinbekh has reported that restoration work is progressing successfully.
The repair program, valued at a total of 105 billion tugriks, consists of five work packages. So far, three have been completed, and overall progress has reached 90%. While the plant will only be able to operate at about 50% of last year’s production capacity, the remaining shortfall is expected to be covered by new energy sources, according to officials.
As a result, authorities have confirmed that there will be no electricity restrictions in the capital this winter.
