MongolZ Rule the World: No. 1 in Both CS:GO Rankings
Mongolia’s Counter-Strike sensation The MongolZ have reached the pinnacle of global esports, becoming the number one team in the HLTV World Rankings for the first time in history. The achievement comes just weeks after the squad also claimed the top spot in Valve’s official global ranking, making them the undisputed leaders of competitive CS:GO.
The HLTV ranking, updated weekly, is widely regarded as the community’s most trusted measure of team strength, based on tournament results, consistency, and opponent quality. Valve’s official global ranking, meanwhile, is used for seeding in Major Championships and reflects official competitive standings across the calendar. To hold first place in both at the same time is a rare feat and a clear statement that The MongolZ are the world’s best.
The team’s climb has been steady throughout 2025. They entered the top five after semifinal finishes at IEM Melbourne and IEM Dallas and a top-eight result at PGL Astana. A breakthrough came with their run to the grand final of the BLAST.tv Austin Major. The Fall season added further weight: their first Big Event trophy at the Esports World Cup, a fifth to sixth finish at IEM Cologne, and two runner-up results at BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals and FISSURE Playground 2. These consistent performances pushed them to No. 1 in Valve’s ladder earlier in September and now to the summit of HLTV’s.
The dethroning of French-led powerhouse Vitality marks a symbolic shift in global Counter-Strike. Vitality dominated the first half of the year with seven straight titles and a 37-series winstreak, but recent form saw them lose ground. For Mongolia, this double crown is a landmark moment, proving that a team from Ulaanbaatar can stand at the very top of a sport once dominated by European and North American giants.
