Mongolian President Visits India
The state visit of Mongolian President U.Khurelsukh to India has officially begun and will continue until Thursday. During the visit, he held formal talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and India. In this context, the two sides agreed to deepen their “Strategic Partnership” and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
President U.Khurelsukh highlighted the $1.5 billion oil refinery project, financed with Indian support, as a symbol of friendship and cooperation between the two nations. He also described India as Mongolia’s “spiritual neighbor.”
Prime Minister Modi, in turn, announced that Mongolian citizens will now be eligible for free e-visas to India. He also stated that the Indian government will provide an additional 70 educational scholarships for the upcoming academic year. To further strengthen cultural exchange, India will launch a new “Young Cultural Ambassadors” exchange program.
As part of the visit, a Mongolia–India Business Forum will take place, along with the “Beautiful Homeland of Mongolia” cultural performance and exhibition.
During the visit, several official agreements were signed between the two countries, including:
- Establishing cooperative trade partnerships between cooperatives, and expanding joint ventures, investment, and technology collaboration
- Enhancing capacity for disaster relief and humanitarian assistance
- Providing up to $50,000 annually for 2–5 small-scale social development projects
- Preserving and restoring the Bogd Khan Winter Palace and improving its surrounding environment
- Establishing cooperation between Arkhangai Province and Leh city in the Ladakh Autonomous Region
- Sharing best practices and expertise in digital transformation
These agreements mark another step forward in strengthening the historic and strategic ties between Mongolia and India.
