Mongolia Unveils Official Logo for UN COP17 Desertification Conference
Mongolia and the UN Secretariat have officially approved the logo for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, which will take place in Ulaanbaatar on August 17–28 next year.
The design reflects Mongolia’s cultural heritage and the shared global mission to fight land degradation, desertification, and drought through unity, responsibility, and collaboration. With over 75 percent of Mongolia’s territory affected by soil degradation, the country has prioritized restoration through initiatives such as the “Billion Trees” movement, the “White Gold” program, and the “Food Revolution.”
COP17 is expected to gather representatives from 197 UN member states, researchers, civil society, and the private sector to advance resilience against drought and promote sustainable land use, aligning with Mongolia’s proposal to declare an “International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.”
