Khurelsukh Meets Modi to Boost Mongolia–India Partnership

President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh has completed his three-day state visit to India. During the visit, he held official talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Both sides agreed to deepen their Strategic Partnership and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

President Khurelsukh highlighted the $1.5 billion oil refinery project being built in Mongolia with Indian support, calling it a symbol of friendship and collaboration between the two nations. He also described India as Mongolia’s “spiritual neighbor,” reflecting the countries’ shared Buddhist heritage and cultural connections.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Modi announced that India will now issue free electronic visas to Mongolian citizens. He also confirmed that the Indian government will grant additional scholarships for 70 Mongolian students in the coming academic year and will launch a Young Cultural Ambassadors exchange program to promote closer ties between Mongolian and Indian youth.

A Mongolia–India Business Forum is also scheduled to take place during the visit, alongside a cultural performance and exhibition titled Beautiful Mongolia.

As part of the state visit, several official agreements were signed between the two countries:

  • To establish cooperative trade partnerships between cooperatives, supporting joint ventures, investment, and technology collaboration.
  • To strengthen capacity for disaster relief and humanitarian assistance.
  • To fund two to five small-scale social projects annually with up to $50,000 each year.
  • To implement a project for the preservation and restoration of the Bogd Khan Winter Palace and improvement of its surroundings.
  • To foster cooperation between Arkhangai Province (Mongolia) and Leh city in the Ladakh Autonomous Region (India).
  • To share best practices and expertise in digital transformation.
