Government and Doctors Reach Deal to Halt Nationwide Strike
Starting last month, doctors and other medical staff held demonstrations demanding an increase in their base salaries. By last week they had announced a nationwide strike, with more than 120 hospital workers declaring that they would participate.
However, just hours before the strike was set to begin, the Government and the Health Sector Trade Union reached an agreement. They settled on a plan to raise salaries by 75 percent within one year.
According to the Government resolution, doctors and medical workers whose pay falls under the TUEM, TUM, and TU classifications will have their base salaries increased to ₮3 million tugriks by the end of 2026. The schedule is as follows:
- From January 1, 2026: +30 percent
- From August 1, 2026: +9 percent
- From September 1, 2026: +9 percent
- From October 1, 2026: +9 percent
- From November 1, 2026: +9 percent
- From December 1, 2026: +9 percent
By January 1, 2027, the base salary of doctors and medical workers will reach ₮3.5 million.
