Fuel Retailers Fined After Shortage Rumors
Following public concern over a possible fuel shortage that led to long lines at gas stations nationwide, Mongolia’s Anti-Monopoly Agency launched an inspection into fuel suppliers. Authorities have stated that reserves remain stable despite the panic.
The investigation found that 21 fuel retailers had jointly increased the price of AI-92 gasoline since May 23, 2025, potentially breaching the Competition Law’s ban on price-fixing. As a result, the agency imposed fines totaling ₮52.6 billion ($15.5 million) on the companies involved, citing evidence of cartel-like behavior in the market.
