Doctors Take to the Streets

On Thursday, doctors and healthcare workers held a peaceful protest in Sukhbaatar Square demanding a salary increase. What made this protest notable was that it took place not only in the capital but simultaneously across the entire country.

The demonstrators are calling for doctors’ base salaries to be raised to 3.5 million tugriks. They are also urging the government to increase funding for hospital repairs and maintenance, and to pay greater attention to the social welfare of medical staff.

Protest organizers announced that if no concrete measures are taken, doctors and healthcare workers nationwide will begin a strike starting on October 17.
