Doctors’ Nationwide Strike Continues Amid Ongoing Negotiations
Following the weeks-long teachers’ protest that recently ended with a pay raise agreement, doctors and healthcare workers across Mongolia have now begun their nationwide strike.
The Health Workers’ Union announced that the strike officially starts on November 14, after negotiations with the Ministry of Health failed to reach an agreement. The ministry had proposed only a 15% salary increase, without clear details or commitments, prompting union representatives to walk out of the talks.
As of now, about 60 hospitals, including provincial and district health centers, have joined the strike. Major facilities such as the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the Trauma Hospital, and the First Central Hospital support the movement but will continue operations due to their critical role in emergency care.
Doctors began peaceful demonstrations on October 9 at Sukhbaatar Square, demanding fair wages and improved working conditions. Union leaders say the strike will continue until their concerns are addressed.
