Bagakhangai-Khushig Valley Railway to Open on Schedule
Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar has inspected the Bagakhangai-Khushig Valley railway construction project, which began in April. The project is being carried out entirely by domestic companies and has created over 400 jobs. The railway is scheduled to open in October this year, in line with the original timetable.
As of today, embankment works are 58% complete, and bridge structures are 65% finished. According to the plan, the railway will run 87.2 km from Bagakhangai Station through Sergelen soum in Tuv Province to Khushig Valley, with an additional 15.6 km stretch to Shuvuun Fabrik, a total of 102.8 km.
The project aims to shift 20 million tonnes of cargo annually from major freight terminals around the capital to a newly built Transport Logistics Center. This is expected to remove an average of 300 to 1,800 heavy trucks per day from Ulaanbaatar’s roads, helping ease traffic congestion and eliminating the need to transport hazardous goods through the city.
