B.Enkhbayar Returns as Justice Minister

Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar announced his decision to appoint Member of Parliament B.Enkhbayar as Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs, exercising his constitutional authority. B.Enkhbayar has been elected to the State Great Khural in two consecutive terms since 2020 and previously served as Justice Minister from 2023 to 2024.

It is important to note that this sudden decision comes at a politically sensitive moment. B.Enkhbayar has recently made public statements accusing newly elected MPP Chairman D.Amarbayasgalan of involvement in the “Adminerel” LLC coal theft scandal and even of possible links to a murder case. Prime Minister Zandanshatar emphasized that the appointment was intended to strengthen the government’s fight against coal theft. However, many analysts view this move as a retaliatory strike by Zandanshatar in the wake of his defeat in the recent party leadership race.

Before B.Enkhbayar, the post of Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs was held by MP L.Munkhbaatar, who had earlier served as head of the MPP caucus in Parliament.
